A black skirt

P1010784

The black skirt I have in mind isn’t certainly a pencil skirt, no, too wintery, it isn’t a mini, forbidden to anybody older than 25, this is a style which is much more appropriate for any age and for this time of the year (for summer too). It is a specific, very chic, kind of skirt.

Identikit:

1- Full. Lots of fabric. A full pleated skirt or anyway a full-bodied skirt.

2- Length, just under the knee

3- Fabric: beautiful

I have two looks in mind for this skirt, the first one, the more elegant one, requires a white shirt and heels:

Black skirt + white shirt + black heels + pearl necklace

And if you can’t walk in those heels and want a more fitted shirt (which works better if you decide to “lower”yourself), here’s another version

Black skirt + white fitted shirt + black mid- heels + pearl necklace

I like the shirt open at the collar, tucked inside and the sleeves rolled up. I actually have a video for that!! I am not mad, not much anyway, watch it, it’s a great way to roll up sleeves:

Now, here’s the dressed down version:

Black skirt + white t-shirt + black mules

And the one with flats:

Black skirt + white t-shirt + black flat sandalsI hate to say it, but there is a photo of Victoria Beckham in which she is wearing more or less the look I have described. Her skirt is worn lower and she is wearing shoes (which I don’t like). She also has her hair down, I prefer the hair up or short.Loose white shirt + low waist wide skirt

Anyway, here are all the clothes and accessories I have used and some alternatives:

Off shoulder tops

Perhaps a tiny bit early to speak about off shoulder tops, I know. I am going to do it anyway!OFF-SHOULDER TOP black

I find them tricky, they can be chic if worn by the right person AND the right way, they can be rather a disaster otherwise! I looked through a lot of sites and the majority of tops were rather awful and “tarty”… I also think, whoever decides to wear this particular type of top, needs to be reasonably young (excess shrivelled up skin on your body isn’t the best!). Dresses are out of the question, unless extremely chic evening gowns. Flowery numbers look too hippy, although I have found ONE I like!!

Anyhow, Balmain and Tibi have done some lovely tops but they are definitely out of our reach! In alternative..

I am not in love with the stripy ones but I thought I ought to show a couple because they are quite trendy but I would not buy one.

The “off the shoulder top is famous and tends to be worn with tight trousers and flats, a la “Brigitte Bardot”. I don’t like it that way anymore though. I much prefer it with loose, long trousers or loose jeans, like this:

I really like the black top worn with white trousers. I suppose one could wear a skirt instead, a wide cut and longish skirt that is (just under one’s knees I’d say), but that solution is much more difficult….

Ring sets & co.

Jewellery has gone “funny” since I stopped wearing it, which was several years ago. There used to be rings, women wore different rings with different stones or just plain gold ones on their fingers. N4228800_0_cartier_engagement-rings-ringsThat is the top part of their fingers (there is a reason why I am specifying this). Rings were usually worn on the three central fingers and some quite eccentric women wore one on their index or on the little finger. For a long time yellow gold was all you could see, than there came white gold and the yellow version became outdated or only for older people.

Now rings have gone everywhere on one’s hands and there are even ring sets!

Don’t get me wrong, I do like this new “arrangement” , it’s just I need time to adjust and get to know this “new system”….because now rings are really worn everywhere!! Even on the bottom part of one’s fingers!! There are really long ones, there are sets, which one wears on several fingers or distributes them for example 2/3 on one finger and the remaining say 2 on two different fingers, ok this is confusing… better show you some pictures:

The long ones

(these are the ones I prefer)

The sets

( first pic: you are supposed to wear the bigger one in “the normal place”, while the other one on the bottom part of the same finger!!)

The open ones

(the third one looks like they have forgotten the stones!! while the first two look like my Mum’s engagement ring only now the diamond have doubled!!)

There are even “tied together” sets…

And finally square rings (they all make me think of something else, the second one looks like a paper clip!!).  It looks like, “design” ones, tend to be in either white gold or silver, for the poorer ones of us)

Here’s Amlul (from the famous blog) wearing several rings…and bracelets for that matter but I am not interested in those.

Rings You can basically wear what you want where you want. Perhaps slightly confusing or liberating? Bah.
