A black skirt

P1010784

The black skirt I have in mind isn’t certainly a pencil skirt, no, too wintery, it isn’t a mini, forbidden to anybody older than 25, this is a style which is much more appropriate for any age and for this time of the year (for summer too). It is a specific, very chic, kind of skirt.

Identikit:

1- Full. Lots of fabric. A full pleated skirt or anyway a full-bodied skirt.

2- Length, just under the knee

3- Fabric: beautiful

I have two looks in mind for this skirt, the first one, the more elegant one, requires a white shirt and heels:

Black skirt + white shirt + black heels + pearl necklace

And if you can’t walk in those heels and want a more fitted shirt (which works better if you decide to “lower”yourself), here’s another version

Black skirt + white fitted shirt + black mid- heels + pearl necklace

I like the shirt open at the collar, tucked inside and the sleeves rolled up. I actually have a video for that!! I am not mad, not much anyway, watch it, it’s a great way to roll up sleeves:

Now, here’s the dressed down version:

Black skirt + white t-shirt + black mules

And the one with flats:

Black skirt + white t-shirt + black flat sandalsI hate to say it, but there is a photo of Victoria Beckham in which she is wearing more or less the look I have described. Her skirt is worn lower and she is wearing shoes (which I don’t like). She also has her hair down, I prefer the hair up or short.Loose white shirt + low waist wide skirt

Anyway, here are all the clothes and accessories I have used and some alternatives:

That’s Not My Age

I feel I must tell you about this Blog:

http://thatsnotmyage.blogspot.it

The reason being that is fantastic! Alyson Walsh, the name of its author, is witty (only British people can manage that), knows a lot about fashion, is older (so she knows a lot about many things!), is just so pleasant to read. I guess I am a little fed up with Blogs where the author posts photos of herself, wearing this or that outfit. Where the author looks splendid and thin and young. Most of us aren’t that perfect ( or boring….) and don’t have that sort of money to spend either. What I really like about Alyson Walsh is, she can write about anything, make it interesting, but most of all, she shows people one can be older, therefore interested in something other than fashion, but at the same time, be interested in fashion. Confused? I am a little but I don’t know how else to say it!!

This Blog is at the very top of my list. Love her. When something makes you smile it is bound to be right! (By the way, the Blogs I was speaking about above, don’t make me smile…)

This is a video she posted today:

You must have a look, you will not be disappointed, I promise. Do have a look at the page called That is my age, it’s brilliant!

BTW: She has written a book: Style Forever: the grown-up guide to looking fabulous. I can’t wait to order it and read it

Off shoulder tops

Perhaps a tiny bit early to speak about off shoulder tops, I know. I am going to do it anyway!OFF-SHOULDER TOP black

I find them tricky, they can be chic if worn by the right person AND the right way, they can be rather a disaster otherwise! I looked through a lot of sites and the majority of tops were rather awful and “tarty”… I also think, whoever decides to wear this particular type of top, needs to be reasonably young (excess shrivelled up skin on your body isn’t the best!). Dresses are out of the question, unless extremely chic evening gowns. Flowery numbers look too hippy, although I have found ONE I like!!

Anyhow, Balmain and Tibi have done some lovely tops but they are definitely out of our reach! In alternative..

I am not in love with the stripy ones but I thought I ought to show a couple because they are quite trendy but I would not buy one.

The “off the shoulder top is famous and tends to be worn with tight trousers and flats, a la “Brigitte Bardot”. I don’t like it that way anymore though. I much prefer it with loose, long trousers or loose jeans, like this:

I really like the black top worn with white trousers. I suppose one could wear a skirt instead, a wide cut and longish skirt that is (just under one’s knees I’d say), but that solution is much more difficult….
