Exxxxaggerating

I feel compelled to write about this need to “over do it” a lot of us have. I have been looking at several Blogs lately and all I see is a lot of trying really hard to stand out by wearing exaggerated outfits. I am not against the odd unusual and flamboyant piece of clothing, but this:

Doesn’t look nice and doesn’t suit them either. Although I have always felt one can and should dress as one pleases, I just can’t understand why a person feels the need to either follow trends at all costs, even if they don’t suit her (or  doesn’t even like them), or when the clothes she wears make her look silly. Worse yet, when a person, in order to look different, will wear the strangest thing she can find, just to be noticed. Take the pictures above: there’s way too much going on. If you take, sometimes, not always, the single pieces on their own, they are nice. But all together?!! It just becomes a mess. Some of them instead are just ghastly and I have the feeling they have been worn in order to impress only. And anyway, would you not want to be remembered for yourself, without an accurate idea of what you were wearing but leave as memory a sense of elegance, taste, or be remembered for your rather strange look? I would prefer the former. Chic isn’t having on all the trends at once or any trends for that matter!

Isn’t this much better:

Perhaps I am wrong but I do think “less is more”. By this is just my point of view (and that of numerous more famous people who have said it before me).

Because even fashion lovers need slippers…

Or do they walk barefoot and sleep wearing only Chanel No.5?!

I don’t. I do like walking barefoot if possible but there are times when my extremities get cold. Of course, as all fashion lovers, I don’t really want to look scruffy and horrible, so I try to buy, if not glamorous (are they ever?!!), at least interesting/good quality/almost stylish/yet comfortable, house footwear.

I have bought ballerinas type of shoes in the past but lately I have gone for the Birkenstock open sandals, in grey felt… I know, not very sexy, but super comfy and at least (I reckon), decent.

I saw these though going around lately and thought it might be my next one:

Mahabis classic

Mahabis classic

It is actually a pair of felt slippers with a detachable sole, which you can easily, at least that’s what they claim, pop on and off, just in case you need to go outside for a minute… You can choose different colours for the bottom too, I quite like the blue:

There’s also a “summer” version of it, not that I will ever buy it myself, since summer here is sooo hot you want your skin off as well!!!!!! But I suppose not everywhere is scorching hot like here. Lucky you!

Selected Femme and your wardrobe needs

I seem to be stumbling upon great labels lately….Well, I suppose I did know Selected Femme already but, I had never stopped to have a proper look at it. I found a very interesting line of clothes and accessories, well cut, classic up to date pieces. More so, a great place for good basics (=black mainly!!). I really quite adore them! Gorgeous all of those “slightly coloured white tops” to match with THE black, which, let’s face it, is absolutely necessary in every woman’s wardrobe, especially timeless pieces like these. Fabrics are actually quite “forward” and the prices are definitely acceptable. The shoes are fantastic too, just my kind of “English” looking footwear. Not one of the following is going to go out of fashion any time soon (making them classics), yet all of them are  “in fashion” too… sometimes because of the colour, sometimes because of the fabric or the cut. Enough! Do take a look for yourself and you will understand.
