Fur collar and cuffs

miss-selfridge-faux-fur-cuff-and-collar-coat I saw a woman yesterday wearing a marvellous fitted, belted coat, trimmed with fur at the collar and the cuffs and I immediately fancied one! I have  looked for images all over the web and I have come up with very little… Some have coats with a fur collar but no cuffs, others even have cuffs by themselves, only one with both!! This will not stop me from having what I want though, it can always be made. In fact, I have an old coat I don’t wear anymore which would be just perfect with the addition of “furry bits”! I was thinking I might just have the cuffs sewn on, wouldn’t it look chic?! And, when I want the collar as well, I will just use one of those gorgeous ones you can just tie around your neck (which I already own).

Now, I think it is probably best to keep to a similar colour for the coat and the fur in order for it to look sophisticated and be easier to match, e.g. black with black/grey fur, camel with browns and so on, although it is not always the case…

Ideas:

Difficult to say which one I would have, but I especially like the navy with navy collar one, the “fun” checked coat and would also love to have the huge collar the woman with the hat has and the denim jacket… almost all, as I said!

One big earring.

Apparently the trend is “ditch one earring”, as WhoWhatWear calls it!

I am quite sure this trend was around recently… nevertheless, it’s interesting. Of course, most earrings are sold in pairs, but, you have to see it this way: if you lose one, you still have the other!

Also, I think the statement earring works better if you have longer hair, otherwise it does look like you forgot one!

In awe of the polo neck….

otherwise called roll neck, turtle neck, high neck…. whether it’s a jumper, pullover or a sweater (confused yet?!), it’s one of the best garments ever invented. Think how cosy you feel when you wear one, how there is no need to add anything else to your look (not even a scarf!) , how stylish it looks…

Of course it does need to be a quality item, you also need to make sure it fits you (not so obvious since you can see women walking around wearing tops  too tight and show some horrible extra folds…) and the colour suits you (beige near a pale complexion isn’t the best!!). It goes with anything, jeans, elegant or casual trousers, skirts, over a dress, you name it! My ideal one is cashmere, but…a wool one will do. I actually own a cashmere polo neck I have had for over 10 years and I still love it.

The basics, lots of them, in fact, they seem to be the trend. Basics in shape and colour but with interesting details, some have really long sleeves which ruffle up at the wrists, some have side slits, some have a round hem at the bottom, a gorgeous bow at the back of the neck, so yes, basic, but with great detailing which makes a huge difference! Here they are:

I know, they all look rather boring and the same, that’s the trouble of showing them in photos and not worn by a model in some of the cases (Yoox!), it would be so much better, especially for the basics, to actually see them in person, touch them and try them on! Mine wants to be only an indication of what there is available and I strongly recommend to go to a shop to choose one. Otherwise, if you are bold enough, choose a few and send the ones you don’t like back!!

The heavier jumpers are not many, I guess they are not available just yet, being so early in the season, so, if I see anything of interest, I will make sure I point out. A plain one is always nice but, this winter, I rather fancy a pattern…
