“Autumn looks”

It’s time to put away your straw handbag and your sandals. Summer is over (thank god!) and your look is boring and tired. Ok, temperatures aren’t exactly “Autumn like”, but it looks like it’s getting colder, because the days are getting shorter, it rains more often (making impossible to wear sandals anyway), and, aren’t you just sooo fed up with the same clothes you have been wearing for months?? I certainly am.

The answer to this transitional moment, where winter clothes are just too much and summer ones won’t do anymore, is mainly accessories.

  1. Handbag: change it to something more seasonal, like this

I love the colour and the classic shape. Here

  2. Shoes: what about the backless footwear which is so trendy now? Even better, the babouche type, which, in case of rain, you can actually pull up at the back?!

  3. Wear denim: it just goes with everything and it’s a great fabric for mid-seasons (if you think about it, it keeps you too hot during summer and too cold in the winter, NOW is the season for it). If you want to have the latest trend, buy yourself a pair of embroidered jeans or make your own buying the application you like to add to your “boring” pair.

Something tasteful, not those tacky pairs full of multi-coloured patches please!

  4. Wear a silk scarf: always a great addition to a classic look or a jeans look. I would invest in this purchase, perhaps going for a second-hand, or, how they like to call it now, an “already owned” one. Here’s a glorious Gucci one

  5. Shirts, shirts and more shirts: this is their moment of glory. Go for the still trendy pussy-bow blouse or the white shirt but with frills! (not to be worn with the embroidered jeans but with a pair of dark blue classic)

The pussy-bow blouse

1343118295_white_cravat_by_bigbad_red-d54xhtiIt looks like the pussy bow blouse is back, again. It pops up more or less each year but never really makes it big. I have been trying to find one for at least a couple of cold seasons but have not managed yet, mainly because I find it either too expensive or too synthetic/cheap for my liking. This year there is a slightly different take of it, which I particularly like: v-neck, no collar apart from a thin string to do your bow with.

If you are unable to find the perfect pussy-bow blouse, or you are short of money right now, you can always do a bit of DIY. Buy either a string, or a ribbon, or even a scarf, then sew it on one of the blouses you already own.

The latest white shirts

I do go on about white shirts a lot, I know. But, let’s be honest, we never seem to have enough of them; the time we see a new style, or we realise we are missing a classic one … and they do go with just about everything (like jeans). Of course mid-season, I find, is the perfect time for shirts.

It’s nearly autumn, one can start adding things…a scarf, a string of pearls, a waistcoat, a jacket, etc. I do think a look is better with more than two things, or colours, for that matter.

Anyhow, here are the latest designs I found and like:

They are all nice to wear on their own, because they are so beautiful, but some will look nice with yesterday’s waistcoats too. Others will look fabulous with a long pearl necklace. Jeans are always a great match, but I especially like them with skirts lately.

My favourites are the Atterley, Babaton e the Zara frilly one!
